Random Relativity

Here’s what I call a bite-sizer…a mini post.  It doesn’t replace my weekly ones–it was just lying around in my journal and I decided to share it.  It’s a poem that is also a riddle, given the nature of the word play.  The next bite-sizer to follow is not a poem, but it, too, was a bit bored–given that I am home, sick, today (it will be included in a separate mini post).

…Random Relativity…

If man is a mouse, then a chicken is he;

yet, a spot-changing leopard is something to see.

If a pig is a ham, no joke—piggy’s roasted;

A portly truffle snuffler? Then porky is toasted.

Oh me, oh my—it makes one sigh.

Figure it out?  Why even try?

There are no rules, not hard, nor fast;

so, be sure they will not last—

For, once your mind accepts the change,

then the knowing’s rearranged;

and lost you are and lost you’ll be,

if you cannot grasp unreality.

When a bee is a bumbler, it can gracefully fly:

but, a dreamer’s an ostrich who mustn’t dare try.

Happy birds sing, their blues make it providence;

But, colored crows caw-ll, and there goes the audience.

Wow, what now—sweat on my brow.

Is this meat, or a holy cow?

It’s either or, and both you see

Depends upon geography

Or time or space, the choice is yours,

One man’s play is another man’s chores

Make sense to you?—No, nor to me,

Hey, welcome to society.

If the learning is “higher”, then, Socratical queries;

but, a child’s baffling questions?—a bothersome series.

If the mood is good-humored, buffoonery’s lauded,

But, an ill-timed jester is never applauded.

Oh me, oh my—it makes one sigh.

Figure it out?  Why even try?

There are no rules, not hard, nor fast;

so, be sure they will not last—

For, once your mind accepts the change,

then the knowing’s rearranged;

and lost you are and lost you’ll be,

if you cannot grasp unreality.

Days long gone, Rubenesque was delectable—

By today’s measures, my sweet?—fat is rejectable.

There’s black, and there’s white—except when they’re grey—

No one’s listening, so, please, have your say.

Wow, what now—sweat on my brow

Is this meat, or a holy cow?

It’s either or, and both you see

Depends upon geography

Or time or space, the choice is yours,

One man’s play is another man’s chores

Make sense to you?—No, nor to me,

Hey, welcome to society. 

    This part reminded me of a conversation I had between some friends, we were discussing the domestication of dogs in the U.S. and I tried to explain how all animals are the same, in regards to treatment. They didn’t seem to understand that in the U.S. it’s only odd that a person may eat a dog because we are so conditioned to the idea of them being domesticated. Whereas on the Eastern of the world they eat dogs and treat cows with high praise, neither are odd, it is just the way that we live. Interesting that that line brought up a conversation I forgot about aha.

    1. Thank you for the feedback…I really appreciate it…and, isn’t it wonderful how we can trigger thoughts and memories in each other? It’s great that our passions are ice-breakers and conversation starters…they connect us in wonderful ways. And, you’re right–we do things, and see things a certain way by virtue of the particular society we happen to end up in.

  2. wow… reflects my favorite words .. ‘ it’s all relative. ‘ If only people understood this simple concept about cultural differences the world would be such a better place.. no hatred.. no violence.. no holier than thou… no prejudices.
    The words about Holy Cow remind me of an incident in India where a muslim man was killed by a Hindu Fanatic mob for cooking beef.( the cow is holy , a semi god / god)

    1. Thank you so much for sharing your reaction/perspective! I agree with you…we need to “live and let live”…judgements are so dangerous and unwarranted…it is a testament to the human condition that we can toss love aside, in favour of choosing hate and persecution. It’s so ironic when societies act on the worst parts of their collective selves, as a defence against/response to what they see as the worst in others.
