“Hanging in there…to your own detriment…”

A second bite-sizer (a mini post that is no substitute for my weekly ones)…

Home, in bed with a cold, I decided there’s no reason to keep some of my wandering thoughts tethered to the bed post.  This thought occurred to me weeks ago, and was included in my journal entry that day…

As I was washing a few dishes, this metaphoric “duh” started to form….I was reflecting on how, once you understand the key to increased peace and happiness, it seems so easy to understand (in theory, that is….practical application can be the tricky part). I’ll leave the preamble at that, and let you make of it what you will (as much as I love to share my process–on all its levels–I get that that might be offering more than you’d like or need…). 

When holding on to a red hot poker, you can:

Try avoidance (switch it from hand to hand).

Choose denial/reverse approach (make a wish and close your eyes).

Rely on stubborn determination (decide to wait it out/hold out until the pain goes away).

Use your common sense (blow on it until it cools off).

Hurl accusations at it (until, in a show of remorse, it fizzles out).

Scream at it (in hopes of scaring it into submission).

Take it to school (to teach it who’s boss).

Stare at it so hard, and for so long, that it sees things through your eyes.

Or–and this may sound like a foolish suggestion…

Let go 🙂

P.S. 1 of 10 posts…6 of which are my regular-sized/weekly version.

  1. Hahaha I love this! I think from now on I’m going to scream at my damn frying pan whenever I get burnt and show that thing who’s boss! Same goes for my hot tea when it burns my tongue

  2. Excellent…although quite mad which is good. I like mad. It reminds me of an apt quote

“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have com

      1. Hey I resemble that remark…not the amazing bit the mad bit. Although if one considers mad as normal then everyone else is mad and I’m entirely sane. Love Alice in Wonderland though. Especially the most recent incarnation in film and I believe they are making the sequel too 😁

Not that any of this has anything to do with your post apart from it being quite mad which is good. It reminds me of an apt quote….and the circle begins once more 😜

  3. I found your blog through the Community WordPress pool. I just clicked on this one. Very entertaining post. Um, I choose scream at it AND teach it whose boss. Which would kind of be similar to telling a cat to roll over or stay.

  4. That actually made sense! 🙂

I love your stream of consciousness style, Truly. I love that your punctuation, grammar, syntax and all that good stuff is immaculate. I love that you make sense on a sentence by sentence level.

I’m quite disturbed that you don’t often come to a clearly defined point. I like clearly defined points.

I love that you made me think about what I like about blogs and what I don’t like about blogs and life. I am inspired to make sure that I come to a point in what I write …

(fire alarm just went off – seriously!)

    1. Thank you sooooo much for your thoughtful and comprehensive comment! 🙂 I love that you are so interesting and forthright…I think you have a fascinating mind…and, I am really appreciative that you are open-minded enough to see the value in my offerings, despite the fact that I write in a non-nonsensical way….and I hope the fire alarm is a false one…

      1. Not sure about the fire alarm – I actually packed up and went straight home.
I’m sorry if I was too forthright with that comment. Usually, I let my mouth run off for a while and then go back and edit it so that it’s not too offensive, but what with the fire alarm going off, I couldn’t do that.
You got a bit of the unexpurgated me there! 🙂

      2. I get it….I tend to open up my mouth and let everything fall out if I’m not careful…where you might be blunt, I can tend to ramble….that’s why I love writing so much–I can be sure that what I’m saying is what I mean to say–in the way I mean to say it 🙂 Glad that everything was okay as far as the alarm was concerned 🙂
