(May 30/20)…Another May-Day, May Day…

Here’s my offering of hope, Wonderfuls…

I don’t watch the news, so I wasn’t aware of the tragic death that expains the “Black Lives Matter” posts and other references to racism and violence that cropped up in my Facebook feed. One of my co-workers told me a bit about it yesterday…she knew not to give me anything but broad strokes…

A black woman, my thoughts are this…

Yes, it’s beyond horrific, and..

I choose to focus on the reality that most people are good-hearted…

And, that’s not to dismiss what happened…

But, I choose not to spiral into the depths of fear, mistrust, and vicarious victimization that fueled my mother’s skewed messages (delivered throughout my childhood and beyond) that all white people are racist at the core.

Of course racism is intolerable…a scourge…

So, I will continue to focus on excavating/being my best self…

For in this way, I validate myself..my worth…my pricelessness…my magesty…

and,

as a human, social worker, therapist,

I will continue to help others discover their better and better selves…

This is my way of focusing on/offering hope and love and light…

This is how I honor those whose lights have (on the surface) been snuffed out…

Without focus on soul-work, humanity is lost…

So, yes, if my ego had its way, it would hold me hostage to the victimization and vicarious oppression that fueled my mother’s mistrust; and I would be sucked into a vortext of abject misery and rage…

But, just as all white people cannot be held accountable for the racist beliefs/actions of white racists…

all black people needn’t be victimized by the atrocities visited on those whose beautiful skin color has been weaponized…

This is the “black privilege” I am blessedly in the position to embrace…

And, Lord knows how grateful I am…

So, let’s, collectively, keep the faith–and, if you are at a loss…

my wish for you is that you find the faith to see you through whatever is hurting your hearts, Lovables… ❤

Affectionately, Truly 🙂

  1. Judy’s words echo mine! Your uplifting post shines much needed light and embraces us all, thank you, Truly.
Many years ago my partner and I came upon a similar scene in our neighbourhood, we stepped in and stood by the officer, imploring him to let his victim breathe…thank goodness, he heard our pleas and let the unfortunate gentleman have the space he needed…the video of that young man’s death is haunting and should never happen to anyone again.
